Despite some close calls with cancellation, the 2012 Volusia Pride Festival is all systems go for Nov. 10.
Initially, a group of college students sought to hold the event in Daytona Beach at Riverside Park, but rental fees and other costs proved too high. Now the festival will be held on the grounds of the United Church of Christ on Washington Street. On Sept. 12, the church council voted in favor of hosting the event and church leadership will step in to help organize it.
Last year, the church voted to be “open and affirming,' meaning that the congregation would accept LGBT members.
The last time any sort of pride event was held in the area was Daytona Pridefest, at City Island Park in Daytona Beach in 2009.
