Neither Randy Ross nor Chase Smith will become Orlando’s second openly gay city commissioner.
Both candidates were defeated in the April 3 election by Jim Gray, who received 55% of the votes, eliminating the need for a run-off election in May. Run-off elections are only conducted when none of the candidates recieve a majority of the votes in the general election.
Chase received 29%, while Ross claimed 11% of the votes. They were vying for the city’s District 1 seat.
A fourth candidate, Steve Rayle, received 5% of the votes.
