Palm Beach County's Nondiscrimination in Contracting Policy now prohibits the county from doing business with or giving funds to any organization”private or public”which discriminates based on gender identity or expression.
The Board of County Commissioners amended the police Jan. 31 in a 6-1 vote. Commissioner Steve Abrams of Boca Raton was the “no” vote, stating that the new standards could negatively affect the number of businesses bidding on county projects.
Rand Hoch, president of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council, said Abrams' concern is unfounded.
