The 2010 Equality Florida Orlando Gala raised $70,000 for the activist organization, a new high for the event. It was held Nov. 6 at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Equality Florida honored Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart with its Voice for Equality Award, making note of success in bringing a Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) to a vote by the Orange County Commission.
New Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs also spoke at the event, via a taped broadcast. Jacobs congratulated Stewart on her award.
“I look forward, as your next County Mayor, to working together with Equality Florida and with the entire LGBT community, and with all the citizens of Orange County to make this a better place, a more sensitive, kind and compassionate place to live,” Jacobs said.
She also said she’s “quite confident” that the HRO will pass when it comes before the Commission on Nov. 23.
