The 2011 Sarasota Film Festival will have a few new features this year, including a collection of “queer screenings” dotting the schedule's landscape.
According to the festival's director of programming, Holly Herrick, the half-dozen LGBT-themed films are an attempt to not only broaden the festival's audience, but to promote an upcoming summer event.
“We are actually hoping that our screenings will serve as a promotional kick off for the brand new Fabulous Independent Film Festival, a GLBTQ fest that will take place this coming summer,” Herrick said. “We will announce news and promotions about the Fabulous Fest at our back to back screenings of two queer-themed films.”
The SFF will screen Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same on Thursday, April 14 at 6 p.m. The film 3 begins at 8 p.m. The festival's closing night film, Beginners, is also heavy on LGBT themes, according to Herrick.
