Shortly before the New Year, Metro Wellness and Community Centers quietly opened its new location at 1315 E. 7th Avenue in Ybor City. The agency, which serves four counties, is now ready to celebrate its new location on Saturday, April 2.
“It offers the same services as our prior Tampa office,” said Tracy Rader, executive assistant with the organization. “It's a duplication of what we do in St. Petersburg.”
The Metro Wellness offices on both sides of the bay and is a comprehensive social service agency serving HIV-affected and infected people and families in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando counties. More than 3,000 people utilize the non-profit's substance abuse treatment and prevention programs, counseling and case management offerings throughout the area.
The grand opening reception is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m.
Tours of the new facility and entertainment are expected. A press release also said refreshments”including champagne”will be available along with a silent auction. Featured speakers are expected to address those attending at 8 p.m.
The grand opening is open to the public.
Metro Wellness and Community Centers is the largest HIV/AIDS service organization in West Central Florida and among the third largest in the state. In addition to medical case management for those infected with or affected by Florida's HIV and AIDS epidemic, the agency provides prevention services for at risk populations, including teens and young adults, minority women, inmates and ex-offenders. Services include free HIV testing throughout the community, substance abuse and mental health treatment, and extensive education and counseling programs.
