FL Rep files statewide domestic partner registry bill

Florida House representative Mark Pafford (D-Boca Raton) has filled House Bill 259 which would set up a statewide domestic partner registry.

The bill’s key wording reads, “provides that any privilege or responsibility granted or imposed by statute, administrative or court rule, policy, common law, or any other law because individual is or was related to another by marriage, or is child of either spouse, is granted on equivalent terms to domestic partners or individuals similarly related to domestic partners.”

It also outlines fees and administrative requirements for creating and recognizing domestic partnerships.

If enacted, the bill would take effect July 1.
