The Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) will provide domestic partner benefits for its employees.
The OCSO is a separate entity from Orange County, so when the county commissioners voted in April to provide domestic partner benefits for county employees, it did not cover employees of the OCSO.
The Orlando Anti-Discrimination Ordinance Committee (OADO) reached out to the Sheriff's Office to encourage and aid policy discussions.
OADO member Mary Meeks said she got a call from an OCSO Human Resources representative June 7 confirming that the OCSO domestic partner
benefits will be provided, and they'll match the policy currently in place for Orange County employees.
“We think it's a great thing,” said Meeks. “We're very grateful to Sheriff [Jerry] Demming for making it happen so quickly.”
Enrollment will kick off in October, with the new benefits to go into effect in January of 2012.
