“I'm in a bitchy mood.” Scottie Campbell
I'm in a bitchy mood as I write this. I don't really know why exactly. I'm also not sure why I feel compelled to let you know right up front. Naturally I could list a bunch of reasons for my funk, but I'm guessing the main reason is Brendan and I have decided to finally buckle down and try to get the number on the scale to look a bit smaller. We fill our lives so full with work, school and projects galore, so much so that we've forgotten to eat right and keep active.
So I'm bitchy because I'm hungry or maybe because I think I'm hungry, if you know what I mean. Add to that lots of hard work, followed by the feeling of never getting ahead financially. Then there are projects always running through my head both ones I'm working on and those I'd like to and that's doubled because I keep myself occupied thinking of Brendan's various projects too. All of this is made even more challenging by the various personalities involved in making things happen; figuring out how to communicate with fellow humans and keep your tender heart intact”¦well, it can be an exhausting adventure at times.
This feeling makes it even more important to me to share a few Ripples with you on this Labor Day 2011. Keeping your eye on making the world a better place and doing it one little thing at a time is about the only way I know of putting a bitchy funk in your rearview mirror.
Thanks for letting me vent. Now, keep your hands outside the vehicle at all times as we embark on our Monday Ripples!
Holy Cow!
Cows Made of Recycled Car Parts
Juxtapoz magazine introduces us to Miina kkijyrkk of Finland and the gigantic sculptures she has made using discard piece of cars. As you'll see they are quite remarkable and at here at Scottie Saves the World we're always fans of keeping things out of the landfill.
Above & Beyond
Before the First School Bell, Teachers in Bronx Make House Calls
I think I've shared with you already that I've only recently ventured into Twitterdom. Honestly, it was an unknown for me, I was basically afraid of trying to figure the whole thing out; so I would bite my thumb in its general direction and dismiss it as a passing fad. A fad that keeps going and going and going. I finally took the plunge and I'm glad I did because I'm finding lots of cool information that might have passed me by otherwise, like this New York Times article that the Gates Foundation tweeted. Educators making the school going experience more personal for students and parents by visiting them in their homes. It will give you hope for the future of America's educational system.
Loving Orlando
For the Love of Cities
I'm anxious to read Peter Kageyama's book For the Love of Cities, having just recently learned of it. The book explores the emotional connection we have with the city we live in and as someone who loves Orlando (but often wonders why) I find the concept of the book intriguing. More than that, I like that he is making his book active bye visiting cities and engaging citizens in activities. Mark Baratelli from Orlando's TheDailyCity.com participated one of Peter's workshops and I'll let him recount the experience for you.
