Movember 2010: The First 10 Days

“Before I speak, I have something important to say.” –Groucho Marx

Here’s documentation of the first 10 days of my Movember 2010 moustache. For those of you who haven’t heard, Movember is a annual event when men all over the globe raise funds and awareness for men’s cancers through the uniquely male experience of growing a big, bushy moustache. (Not everyone grows a stache, Mo Bros are joined by Mo Sistas who help to raise money.)

As you can see in the pictures below, I went for a slightly more conservative look this year after experiencing the multi-colored fumanchu in my freshman Movember year. Even so, a woman I met at TEDxOrlando last night referred to my hair upper lip as a ’70s porn star moustache. One thing holds true from last year to this, Movember is never dull.

As of this writing, we’ve raised $145. My goal is at least $1000, so you can see your help is needed. No donation is too small or too large. If you’re able, please click here to donate: Scottie Saves the World Mo Space.

Day 1: The night before election night, Brendan and I went to a rally at Lake Eola at which Bill Clinton spoke. As you know from the election results, the gifted orator didn’t magically get Florida to vote Democrat. Day one you start out clean shaven, those are the rules!

Day 2: I took this one at one of the jobs I have right now helping to manage a second run movie theatre. It is…let’s just say…an adventure. That strange expression on my face is usually the one I’m wearing while I’m there.

Day 3: This was taken at the organic gardens at Rollins College, my alma mater and the school Brendan is currently attending. Brendan was instrumental in organizing the gardens, so we’re pretty proud of them. He was also the art director and photographer for this shot — which will be the case for many of the pictures.

Day 4: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. came to Rollins to speak on behalf of their Winter Park Institute. He is a gifted and dynamic speaker. I’ve done a lousy job of trying to communicate his points to people after, but that won’t stop me from writing a blog post about it in the next week or so!

Day 5:
So I’m in love with a Canadian and there happens to be Canadian money laying around the house. I didn’t shave on this day to help me shape the stache a bit more. I kind of hate this photo because it shows a chip in my tooth where a bond recently — and mysteriously — fell off.

Day 6: Brendan made me a third eye number six. Yeah, I don’t get it either.

Day 7: I’m going to eat Day 7 for dinner! Those beady eyes belong to our dog Morton. He normally has sweet, absorbing, brown eyes, but the flash got to them.

Day 8: I asked the Magic 8 Ball is the Scottie Saves the World Movember campaign would be a resounding success. The answer, no lie, was yes!

Day 9: This wheatpaste kitty poster is right across the street from the Watermark offices. A cat has nine lives, get it? Anyway, I hate this picture too because all I can think is “diet and exercise” when I look at it.

Day 10: It’s all about size as the stache grows and grows. That ruler is something of antique from my grandfather’s days at Dixie Bearings.
