Carrie West Applies For Tampa City Council Appointment
Tampa Bay celebrity, staple, blogger and GaYbor District president Carrie West could be appointed to a higher position. West announced on his MC Film Fest website that he is up for an appointed seat on the Tampa City Council. While it is no secret that West has thought about campaigning for the council in the past, the decision to seek appointment could make his dream a reality. West is currently in the interviewing process for the post and was interviewed by council members for Linda Saul-Sena’s and John Dingfelder’s vacant seats. Decisions regarding the appointment could come by July 23. Here’s wishing West the best of luck!
Frame Factory closes shop
After 28 years in business, the Frame Factory has shut its doors. Owner Jim Zinsler has moved to Waynesville, N.C., along with his partner, Scott, and their dog Jake. In an e-mail, Zinsler says that his decision to shutter the shop on Fourth Avenue North in St. Petersburg was a “bittersweet” decision but that it was time to move onto the next chapter of his life. He hasn’t ruled out opening another framing store in North Carolina, however. He also adds that he will miss his friends and family in Florida. We will miss Jim and Scott as well—along with the great work provided by Frame Factory. We wish them both the best in their new life.
Construction worker’s death delays Tru Lounge opening
The brand new club Tru Lounge opened to a huge crowd and plenty of fanfare on July 10—just a few days after a VIP reception planned for the new venue was canceled. On July 7, owners and managers of the club hoped to offer a sneak peak of the 2325 Ulmerton Rd. club in Clearwater, but had to cancel after a construction worker collapsed and died while completing the renovations. No details were released as to the cause of the death but a Facebook message relayed that the incident would delay the opening. Fortunately for fans of dance music high-end clubs, the opening weekend provided a glimpse of a new atmosphere of fun and fabulousness in an area that is not always associated with LGBT events.
