Tidewell Hospice will be starting a six-week art-based grief support group geared toward LGBTQ individuals, beginning June 9 at the Tidewell Family Grief Center in Ellenton.

Tidewell Hospice is a branch of Empath Health, a not-for-profit organization that offers end of life and palliative care for individuals living with advanced illnesses. Care is provided for nearly 10 thousand patients annually throughout the four counties of Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto.

Tidewell’s newest LGBTQ grief support group, “Journeying Through LGBTQ+ Grief and Loss” will provide an opportunity for individuals to build a foundation for learning how to share emotions and cope with various feelings. Each meeting will center on group discussions and creative art projects, designed to encourage each member’s individuality.

“As we celebrate Pride Month in June, we are honored to offer this new grief group to support LGBTQ+ individuals as they move through their grief journey,” said Tidewell Hospice president and CEO Jonathan Fleece. “Tidewell supports everyone with compassion, openness and understanding. We are committed to providing extraordinary care and services to meet the needs of all in our community.”

Tidewell has earned a SAGECare Platinum certification from the SAGE organization, the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of elder LGBTQ individuals. This certification is SAGE’s highest credential that can be awarded.

“Journeying through LGBTQ+ Grief and Loss” will begin June 9 and will take place every Thursday at 10 a.m. until July 14. Individuals can register by visiting the Tidewell Hospice website, or calling its main office at 941-845-306.
