MrSisters Becomes Sin-ful
Due to open March 23 is Orlando’s newest hot-spot known as SIN. The owners of SIN Nashville have procured the property formerly known as MrSisters on Colonial Drive. The club that is bound to shake things up in Orlando’s nightlife will boost a new floor plan and cutting edge lighting system, national DJs and even boasts being open until 6 a.m. once a week. Brian Feldman, the award-winning Orlando-based conceptual artist, has announced his final three Orlando projects before relocating to D.C. Feldman has performed and produced more than 100 time-based art projects, including marrying a stranger in 2010 to demonstrate the absurdity of the law allowing almost perfect strangers to marry, yet denying committed partners from marrying simply based on gender. Hot Leather
Central Florida Leatherman 2012 blazed through Orlando with a vengeance. More than 125 people turned out for this year's competition held at Parliament House Jan. 29. For the third year, contestants competed in a number of categories, including “Physique,” “Gear,” and “Best fetish scene.” In the end, Drew Arch took home this year's title. “This turned out to be the most entertaining, successful and hottest leather event in Central Florida history,” boasted producer Randy Sullivan. Along with esteemed judges and guest local personalities Brian Humphries and Erik Caban dubbed “The Paulas,” how could it not have been? South Florida Leatherman reported that this year's producers, “Randy Sullivan and Griff Morgan have revived Central Florida's leather community in one night.” While the producers are already gearing up for Central Florida Leatherman 2013, Drew Arch will be heading to compete at S.E.C.C.(Southeast Conference of Clubs) in Augusta, Ga., and will potentially go on to International Mr. Leather in Chicago.
My Fair Lidy's Big Debut
The big screen debut of the Leigh Shannon film, My Fair Lidy will be Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Valencia College East Campus in the Performing Arts Theater. The film centers on a blue collar worker who has fallen on hard times and after a chance meeting with Miss Sal, a successful Drag Performer, he is exposed to a new career opportunity; he undertakes a strange journey of becoming a Marlene Dietrich Impersonator. “Thanks to the people who donated their places, support, goods and so much to this project,” said Shannon. The gamut of local stars in this film include Rus Blackwell, Tom Nowicki, Michele Feren and drag personalities Darcel Stevens, Melissa Mason, Susan Whitney, Tia Devine, Page King and Lady Guy.
Summer Breeze”¦makes me feel fine
“Soft Southern Breezes,” featuring Key West artist Michael Palmer's acrylic and ink work, opens at the Bowersock Gallery in Mount Dora, with an artist's reception Friday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. The exhibit runs through March 13 and is believed to be the first publicized exhibit by an out artist in Mount Dora. Best known for his sense of color and form and intriguing unusual perspectives, Palmer's pieces are frequently “shot” from above or below a scene and a clear, individual hand. Palmer has absorbed and interpreted Florida for decades, notes Curator Steve Bowersock. The Mount Dora location is the second for Bowersock and partner Michael Sanger. The original location is in Provincetown, Mass.
