The local X Factor
Fans of FOX's new hit reality talent show X Factor have watched a familiar Tampa Bay face during the show's run so far this season. The adorably young and talented Jeremiah Pagan, who sings like Whitney Houston and performs as “Miah” when in face throughout Tampa Bay, wowed all four judges of the new Simon Cowell-created show and advanced to the “Boot Camp” segment of the competition. Pagan was emotional on the large stage after his initial audition and has continued to build legions of fans from around the world thanks to his breathtaking and increasingly solid performances. Pagan now has an official fan page on Facebook and rumor has it he'll be releasing some original music in the not-too-distant future.
Minnelli cancels Florida tour
The diva herself, Miss Liza Minnelli, won't be making that trek to the Sunshine State after all. The daughter-of-Judy-Garland was scheduled to appear at Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall and Sarasota's Van Wezel in January but announced earlier this month that she won't be making any appearances in Florida during this tour. Details as to why she cancelled weren't given, but Liza with a “Z” announced Oct. 6 that seven other shows have been canceled because of a battle with bronchial pneumonia. Fans that have already purchased tickets can get refunds by contacting the individual box offices directly.
Sarasota's G2H2 sets high standard with new event
Nearly 80of Sarasota's highest profile gay men attended the Gay Guy Happy Hour (G2H2) at Ivory Lounge on Oct. 6, impressing organizers and the local media. According to Arica Love of LGBTLive.com, the success of the event was so impressive that the Sarasota Herald Tribune raved about it in its post-event coverage. The mixer, brought to the community by Josh Beadle of Beadle Media, was combined with an art show and hosted by Ms. Love herself. G2H2 will return the first Thursday of each month and is already living up to it's tagline: “Sarasota just got scene!”
