The annual Orlando Fringe Festival lottery took place on Monday, Nov. 15. Surpise! There’s lots of gay in the 2011 lineup. Wanzie? In. Jeff Jones? In. Dewey Chaffee, Todd Kimbro, Baby Blue? In, in, in. But there was drama. Wanzie Presents’ [title of show] was reportedly the last production chosen for the big Orlando Rep Bush Theater, also known as the Silver Venue. And Miss Sammy? Well… the stylish and popular talent was left dangling. Kangagirl Productions’ Miss Sammy Bakes a Cake (surely it must be angel food) is first on the official wait list. Just one of 62 entrants has to drop out between now and next May, so even though theater people are notoriously reliable (cough) we have this advice: Marcy, start making the costumes. Next year’s Fringe will also see the return of the hilarious Fiely Matias and Dennis Glacino, also known as the Oops Guys, fresh from their ongoing tour of the planet. Their show, Bitches of the Kingdom, is reportedly about Disney princesses, but it’s a safe bet there will be male nudity. The Oops first Fringe show, aptly titled The Naked Guy, was a runaway hit in 2000.
Gays and Guitars on the High Seas
Watermark was among the local media guests invited on a cruise of the Caribbean by ALandCHUCK.travel, part of the largest gay-owned travel company in the nation. Accommodations aboard the massive MSC Poesia were luxurious, the weather was postcard perfect, and the company was great: Peter and Frank from What’s Happening, James from OMG, Peter and Scott from HotSpots, Mariruth and Linda from MyQmunity, Greg and Victor from MyGaySafeHaven, Carrie from MCFilmFest, Robert from Outings & Adventures, Rafa and Thomas from Wire… and of course, Al and Chuck and their attentive staff. But there was also a huge bonus in the people-watching category. Turns out it was “ShipRocked,” a Rock and Roll cruise featuring four bands and hundreds of music fans out for some heavy metal on the high seas. Want to be entertained?
