Christian network TBN settles harassment suit
A gay former engineer at the Orlando-based Christian broadcast giant Trinity Broadcasting Network has settled a $2 million civil lawsuit that alleged his employer harassed him for his sexual orientation. The lawsuit alleged that Paul Crouch Jr., the son of founders Jan and Paul Crouch, told Brian Dugger to stop being “gay,’’ teased Dugger in front of others and told him to take more interest in women. Court papers show Dugger settled with TBN for an undisclosed amount.
Echo creates new voter registration app
Echo Interaction Group, an Orlando-based, gay-run ad agency, has teamed with Project Vote to create a new application targeted at voters. The widget will collect voter data, process it and upload the information to state elections officials. It is compatible with all iPhone, Blackberry and Symbian based operating systems—including the iPad— and will be officially unveiled in May. Right now, Florida is not among the four states that allow online voter registration.
New LGBT-friendly charter school to open doors
Orlando’s gay and lesbian students will have a new choice for education this coming school year. The Central Florida Leadership Academy is now taking enrollment for 6th and 7th graders and is set to open in August. The school’s leaders are committed to making the school a safe haven for gay and lesbian youth. It’s located on Primrose Avenue, with open houses scheduled for Apr. 21 and May 8.
