ORLANDO | Orlando Shakes’ “Fat Ham,” a bold and queer remix of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” will be showing until March 29.

The theater is staging “Fat Ham,” playwright James Ijames’ wildly popular reimagining of “Hamlet” that swaps the Danish court for a sizzling cookout comedy.

This Southern fried take on “Hamlet” follows Juicy, a Southern college kid, grappling with some serious questions of identity. When the ghost of his dead father appears at a family BBQ demanding revenge for his murder, Juicy must grapple with the decision to heed his phantom father’s advice or remain true to himself.

An uproarious family barbecue emerges into a compelling examination of laughter, love and loss, pain and joy.

There will be a Pride Affinity Night on March 26 to bring together LGBTQ+ members and their allies from the Central Florida community for the 7:30 p.m. performance of “Fat Ham.” The night will feature Pig Floyds BBQ food for purchase before the show starts, a talk-back and a discussion at Harriett’s Bar following the performance.

“Fat Ham” is rated PG-MA. Racist, adult and violent language is used. Domestic violence and violence are referenced. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit OrlandoShakes.org.
