Domestic Partner Registry in the works for Lee County

Ft. Myers – Lee County residents could register as domestic partners as early as late spring.

According to the Lee County Attorney’s Office, county staff is finalizing a proposed ordinance that could go before the County Commission as soon as late April or early May.

Equality Florida is helping draft the ordinance, which includes stipulations that couples can’t be married and must live together. Registered couples receive rights and protections that include health care decisions, hospital visitation, burial decisions and correctional visitation.
