Still Fiery at 30

Still Fiery at 30

ErikCabanHeadshot_copyI turned 30 today.  Not sure how I feel about it. For gay men this can seem especially devastating but instead of going home after work today and drowning in a sea of White Zinfadel and anti-aging products, I decided to do what I do with any dilemma…make a Pros and Cons list!

Turning 30 Cons:

-You’re no longer ‘in your 20s.

-I can no longer be called a “twink.”

-If you go into a club frequented by the 20-somethings, be prepared to be seen as a “daddy” and hit-up for drinks.

-You can’t get away with little to no beautifying products or just ‘throwing something on’ to wear.

-You feel guilty after making irresponsible decisions.

-People don’t give you a pass for ‘not knowing any better.’

-Your tolerance for B.S. and drama significantly decreases making you much bitchier.

-Losing weight is much harder. I recently bought my first “body shaper” or as I call it, a mirdle – from the Under Gear catalog.

Turning 30 Pros:

-You don’t care as much about what other people think.

-You’re much more confident!

-You are seen as a “daddy” by the younger gays, therefore giving you more power. 😉

-You’re still not in your 40s!

-You get more respect and are taken more seriously.

-Getting carded is a compliment and no longer annoying.

-Your wrinkles don’t take over your face yet, but still give you street cred.

-You no longer have to worry about turning 30.

-Your friends are usually established in a job and won’t ask you for money or a place to stay.

-Most of my friends are in their 40s, so I’m still seen as a youngin’.

-Your tolerance and awareness for B.S. and drama significantly decreases making you less likely to put up with it.

I’m sure I could go on and on! The point is, 30 isn’t so bad after all.  Now that it’s here, I think the biggest adjustment is getting used to the 3 in front of my age instead of the 2.

Feel free to add on to either of my lists! Go CAPRICORNS!
