Seeing Stars at Wanzie's Celebrity Match Game
Wanzie’s Celebrity Match Game: Charity Edition raised over $3,350 for the Genesis Community Program Thursday, Sept. 20 at Parliament House’s Footlight Theater. Audience members bid for the opportunity to compete as contestants. Among the winning bidders: Ellen Tatich, James Wolf and Raymond Burton. Country and western recording artist Patrick Gibson assisted Michael Wanzie in auctioning off a hand-made shawl donated by Jean Farris. Wanzie raised an additional $750 from audience members anxious to hear Gibson perform. In addition to Gibson, the celebrity panelists were Scott Maxwell of the Orlando Sentinel, Moira from The Philips Phile, former Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart, Jackie “The Queen of Versailles” Siegel, and Real Radio’s Soul Brother Kevin. Assisting Wanzie was Doug White of D Squared Productions. Wanzie’s Celebrity Match Game: Charity Edition was in lieu of the 15th Annual Miss OBTA Pageant. The event’s producer, Jeff Horn, announced that for the 16th year they will host the Hair Ball in September 2013.
Off Limits to Gays
Watermark reported in August that a Facebook page going by the name “Off-Limits Nightclub” had launched and was marketing itself as a new bar opening in the now defunct Mr. Sisters location. We've since learned they quietly opened on Sept. 6 and are currently promoting their official grand-opening Oct. 3. With advertised theme nights “Ladies Night,” “Hip-Hop Night,” and “Latin Night,” I think it's safe to assume this new venture is not targeting the gays.
Swinging at Maxine's on Shine
Miss Sammy and Liz Langley have found a home for their “Karaoke for Swingers.” Their alter egos, “Dick and Constance Swinger” host this high-energy event every Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. Maxine's on Shine. “We’ve really been having a blast,” says Sam Singhaus aka Miss Sammy. Catch Miss Sammy in her man-pants and moustache playing the funkiest hits of the 70’s, along with videos, dance breaks, comedy bits, and of course “more cowbell””all set in a gorgeous restaurant with fantastic food and a tasty beer and wine menu. “Doing it at Maxine’s has been fabulous,” he says. Karaoke for Swingers originated several months ago at Hamburger Mary's. “We had scheduling problems because of the Arena games and shows, so committing to a weekly night there didn’t work,” says Singhaus. Some notables like Billy Manes, Christine Robison, Mimi P. Saunders, Billy Snyder, Andrea Canny, and some not-so-famous people like Jim Travolta, Sara Fawcett, and Peaches and Merv have become regulars. “You can bring your own back-up singers and CDs, or we can sing-and-swing with you,” says Singhaus.
