Mr. Code goes Top 20 at IML
Steve Herrick did St. Petersburg well during the 2012 International Mr. Leather competition in Chicago the last weekend of May with a Top 20 finish. Herrick, who won Mr. Code Florida at the Flamingo Resort earlier this year, was the first active member of the military to compete in the country's largest leather man competition. Herrick addressed his position as an out and proud member of the Navy and what it meant to him to be allowed to serve openly. He added that he is committed to the fair treatment of all people”both in and out of military service. Herrick is the first ever title holder out of the Code leather bar within the Flamingo Resort.
The 2012 IML title went to Woody Woodruff, Mr. Michigan Leather, and first runner up was awarded to A.C. Demidont, Mr. Eagle New York.
Pride Pageant Day is June 17
It's Pride month again, and that means titles are on the line for Mister and Miss St. Pete Pride. This year, both pageants land on the same day at the Flamingo Resort. Mister St. Pete Pride begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 17, where area male impersonators will compete for the coveted title. The pageant will unfold poolside during the resort's popular T-Dance and will be hosted by Faith Michaels and Meagan Towers. Categories include creative pride presentation, talent and evening wear. The winner will take home a cash prize and a spot on the main stage at the St. Pete Pride Street Festival on June 30.
Immediately following the crowning of Mister St. Pete Pride, the Miss St. Pete Pride pageant begins at 8 p.m. This pageant moves inside the Flamingo's main bar and will again be hosted by Meagan Towers and Faith Michaels. Like her male counterpart, Miss St. Pete Pride 2012 will walk away with a cash prize, a crown and a spot on the main stage of the street festival June 30.

Tampa loses long-time advocate
Long time LGBT advocate and party girl Mary Ann Bonsey passed away on Monday, June 4. The larger than life “Queen” was known for her love of cigarettes, Stoli Vodka, southern cooking and her legions of gay friends. She was close to several Tampa notables, including performer Judy B. Goode and Mark Bias and Carrie West of MC Film Festival.
“To say she will be missed is a huge understatement,” Bias and West wrote in the current issue of their popular blog, Dishing with Mark and Carrie.
