Bronze Bombshell
Out of 5,203 entries worldwide, Liz Langley’s book, Crazy Little Thing: Why Love and Sex Drive Us Mad, was recently awarded a bronze medal in the Independent Publisher’s Book Awards. To celebrate the local literary, a party is being given Monday, June 4, at the Peacock Room on Mills Ave. While the invite notes that this is not a book signing party, if you bring, what is now an award-winning book, she’ll sign it for you. “[I] want to clarify that it is the bronze in the “sex and relationships' category; there were many categories,” she posted. “Considering that an anthology won the gold and a book about anal play won the silver, I think I did pretty good,” Langley boasts. Have you ever fantasized about performing a marriage ceremony… that’s legal? Watermark publisher Tom Dyer got that opportunity when friends Greg Triggs and Matt Nolen asked him to officiate at their May 19 wedding at a Riverside Drive penthouse on the Upper West Side. New York City mandates that officiants be a member of the clergy, but Dyer discovered that is easily accomplished with the Universal Life Church (ulc.net), whose simple tenets are to ‘be kind’ and ‘tell the truth.’ But don’t wait until the last minute, Dyer cautions. Online, the process takes about three weeks. Triggs is a former Watermark contributor who performed at Pleasure Island’s Comedy Warehouse. Nolen is an award-winning artist whose brother, Phillip, is a mainstay of the Central Florida theater community. The couple has lived together in New York City since 2005. Close to 100 attended a wedding Dyer described as, “emotional and uplifting.”
Oh, Snap!
On May 12 at SNAP! Orlando, Come Out With Pride and SNAP! hosted Fashion Night. This 15,000-square-foot. space featured exhibits from local and national artists such as Moby, Oleg Dou, Mi-Zo and Miru Kim. The climax of the evening involved a meet and greet with world renowned photographer Damien Blottiere, who was also featured in May's OUT magazine. Saturday night also featured two shows, complete with interactive projections of fashion images on the bodies of live models at the GAI Building, 618 E. South Street. Snap! is a project of The Lucie Foundation, a national 401c3 charitable foundation with a mission to celebrate master photographers and photography worldwide. The event in Orlando increases the visibility and appreciation of the photographic medium as a significant cultural art form”all while enhancing Orlando's national presence as a vibrant cultural tourism destination.
