A bit of GaYbor in Gulfport
Just a little bit of that GaYbor spirit has eeked into the Pinellas County side of Tampa Bay. Honey Pot and G. Bar owners Steven Moss and Steve Donahue, along with Ernie Webb, will open a new LGBT venue in Gulfport on Labor Day weekend. The Dive Bar & Grill is at the home of the former Roman Gardens Restaurant on the corner of Beach Drive and Shore Boulevard along Gulfport’s waterfront. A Bacardi Beach Bash Sept. 4-5 will no doubt bring in some amazing talent and drink specials into the already LGBT-friendly city. Watermark pals and Tampa Bay celebs Mark Bias and Carrie West are also slated to open a second MC Film Fest storefront right next door to the new hot spot. We’re sure the gossip will get even juicier now that there are eyes along the beachfront.  More details will be released on the bar’s new website, DiveBarAndGrill.com.

Going to the Thespains
The newly reinvented L-Train bar in downtown St. Petersburg is achieving what its management had hoped—it’s becoming a local hangout for local actors and actresses. Since partnering with Gyspy Productions earlier this summer, the bar has reinvented itself as a theater and relaxed hangout for the thespians among us. During the weekend of Aug. 13, the cast of Cellmate Confessions, which was produced at Studio 620, held a cast party there. Word has it that other actors came in to socialize with the masters of the stage as well—and Gypsy hasn’t even opened its first show there yet. That happens in September with An Evening With Mr. Johnson: It’s Even Harder Being A Gay Dick.

Sarasota power couple to be honored

Long-time couple and activists Jim Jablonski and Bart Coyle will be honored by ALSO Out Youth in September. According to an e-mail from Bryan Hadley with AOY, a Sept. 26 brunch will thank the two for their charitable contributions to Sarasota organizations over the years and also raise money for the non-profit organization. Both Coyle and Jablonski are responsible for Bowling for Boxers, the LGBT bowling event that raises money for ALSO and other groups each spring. More information on the brunch will be released soon.
