No doggie didn’t!
There was a good turnout for the Metropolitan Business Association July social event, held at the Relax Grill across from the swan boats at Lake Eola. More than 60 members and guests showed up with their leashed pets in tow. An observation: gays and lesbians prefer their dogs to be either very large, or very small. One of the dogs got overly excited. Freud, the adorable pooch owned by MBA president Dr. David Baker-Hargrove quietly pooped on the patio during the middle of the event. Dr. Dave muttered something about overzealous potty training, but almost no one noticed. The event was hosted by Greg and Jose at Sparky’s Pet Salon.
Softball success over the 4th
Two local softball teams traveled to different tournaments over the 4th of July weekend, and found similar success. Orlando RPM won the always competitive “C Division” at the Beat the Heat Classic in Dallas, besting hometown favorites Woody’s Wreckin Crew. And at the Big Peach Softball Tournament in Atlanta, the Orlando Force shared the “A Division” title with with the Atlanta Venom after thunderstorns interrupted their championship game. Meanwhile, it was just as competitive at Central Florida Softball League commissioner Kyle Gaither’s 4th of July barbecue and card party. The host presided over one never-ending game of spades that lasted for hours because players were better at losing points than scoring them. Maybe they should’ve gone to Atlanta.
Tidbits
The South Florida-based organizers of Let’s Go Play at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon made good on their promise to give some of the Gay Days Weekend proceeds back to the local community. According to the Hope and Help Center’s Maggie King, she received a check for $5,000 within weeks of the event. Hope and Help provides support to those living with HIV/AIDS. * Patrons of Orlando’s Joy Metropolitan Community Church got a jump start on the 4th with their Colors of the Rainbow Stonewall Celebration on Saturday, June 20. The party—held at the beautiful South Orlando lakefront home of Mark Puig—featured a karaoke lounge and discotheque, and ended with a fabulous fireworks finale over the lake. The event was hosted by Puig and Chris Jack, David Sayko, Jeff Henderson, Kelly Greenwood, Wiebe Middendorp and Robert Collins.
