11/3/09 Election watch

It’s 10:18 p.m. I’m sitting in the Watermark offices (they make fun of me when I call it the “newsroom,” but that’s what it is to me, okay?), drinking a beer (don’t tell my boss) obesessively refreshing the Bangor Daily News election day page, waiting for more information on what’s going on in Maine.

It’s a nail-biter, and being alone in this dark office is adding an unwelcome layer of spookiness. I should have bribed one of the other Watermarkers (my coworkers don’t know this is what I call them, but it’s late and my guard is down) to wait with me.

Oh, jeez. 22% reporting and it’s 50.62% No (No is good, remember) and 49.38% Yes.

And yeah, I’ve noticed I’m getting parenthetical.

I’ve uploaded all the Halloween photos, changed the featured video, and gotten the St. Pete results online. We have had a HUGE day for news – Skipper murder trial verdict came in, too – I’ve officially run out of things to do but I have to do something between refreshes so how about some interesting stuff I’ve been reading?

It’s been one year since Obama was elected (remember the nail-biting THAT night?) and I like this scorecard of promises kept or not kept on LGBT issues.

And in the arena of stuff I’ve been reading that has nothing to do with politics, I like this list of stuff people who work in restaurants should never do. If that makes me a snob, I guess I’m pretty cool with it, but I pay for service and like to think I get something in exchange for my money. However, like most of the zillions of commenters, there are at least a few I disagree with. I like when a server tells me his/her name, I don’t care if they eat and I can see it, and I’m not super picky about hands on the neck when wine is opened. What do you think of the list?

And what do you think of this Maine stuff, huh? Am I the only election-stalker out there tonight? If not, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

But it’s so quiet in here, I’m starting to wonder if I am.
